Antique wooden box covered in brass which has been embossed with an Oriental design, incorporating dragons, various leaves and geometric designs. Drop handle centre front. The inside is lined with blue baize so this may have been a silver cutlery box, though there's no lock. Though this looks like copper, it's just the patina; a bit of sandpaper on the inside of the lid revealed that. Most brass covered boxes are fairly hideous affairs, for keeping coal in, usually with a galleon at sea motif, for some reason. This though, is delicate and rather more tasteful, subjective though that is.. Condition is fine structurally; cosmetically there are various bumps and scrapes; a hole in the brass here and there, and some loose edges to the metal, most of which we've secured with brass pins (see pics).
